This page has dogs from the states of Montana, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Nevada, Idaho

Some breeders found on this page include Mansker, Lamar, Taylor, Hartnagles (Las Rocosa), Heard (Flintridge), etc.

To understand a bit more about how some of the relationships formed between owners/dogs,etc. it might help to understand that Mansker (Colorado), Joe Taylor (Utah) and Walt Lamar (Oklahoma) went to college together in Colorado and remained friends. That explains why their dogs were so often bred together and why you'll see some of the name overlapped (current owner had name on dog,etc.).

Below: Ch. Las Rocosa Leslie (Hartnagle's Fritzie Taylor x Las Rocosa Shiloh)

Leslie was one of those dogs, according to reports, who didn't seem to know a stranger.  If you were welcome with her humans, she would come on up and want to be stroked.  Seems to have been a real good public relations dog for the breed.

Las Rocosa Cooter (Ch. LR Shiloh x LR Moss Agate) owned by Dave Whitteraker in Georgia.

Now, Cooter isn't really "roots" dog, but loved this picture, so thought it might be fun to include him here.

Above:  Tegtmeyer's Ringo (Elys Badger x Van Pelts Tilly) and Tegtmeyer's Bronze Lady (Weiss Pistol x Weiss Lassie) both born about 1965 and bred by Juanita Ely.

Mrs. Ely's dog were considered Colorado dogs even though she got some dogs from Bennets, Leitners (Kansas), Breazeales (California), and Bye's (Nevada). She lived in Colorado. She sold her dogs to many folks who went on to be breeders, including Jeaneane Harper, Sandy Cornwell, etc.

Ch. Cornwell's Cody (Tegtmeyer's Ringo x Tegtmeyer's Bronze Lady)

owned by Sandy Cornwell and lived/stood at stud in Illinois.  Cody was known for his brains and antics in the obedience ring.  He could rush the fence as if to attack a stranger and upon the command "down" from Sandy would drop on the spot.  Sandy recalls one time in obedience ring, during outdoor CDX trial in the sun.  The owners left their dogs in stay and went out of sight.  They returned and Cody was where she had left him but people were chuckling.  Afterwards judge told Sandy why they hadn't passed and why the audience was chuckling.  During their absence, Cody had gotten up and moved to a shady spot.  When owners were coming back, he went back to his "stay" position.  Guess he didn't see the point of waiting in the sun.  There's Aussie smarts for you.
